Golden opportunity for India to test our ancient wisdom: An appeal to the Honorable Prime Minister of India

The death toll in India due to the novel coronavirus rose to 199 and the number of cases to 6,412 in the country on Friday, according to the Union Health Ministry. In the world so far death figure has raised to 95, 739.  More than 16,000 people with the coronavirus have now died in the United States, according to a New York Times database which is highest in the world.  Mr Boris Johnson, PM of UK was in ICU. Over 150 family members of the crown Prince of Saudi Arab are infected.

WORLD  STATISTICS

Older people and those with underlying other health problems such as diabetics, cancer, heart problems, etc are most vulnerable to Covid-19, making the consequences of a nursing home outbreak especially devastating.

Across the world, a pattern has played out with tragic consistency: Someone gets sick in a nursing home. Soon, several residents and employees have the coronavirus. The New York Times has identified more than 2,774 cases of the coronavirus associated with nursing homes or long-term care facilities across the nation. In India too death of a doctor has now raised the vulnerability  of health workers getting infected during treatment and that will raise the concern of getting health workers for battling against this invisible enemy.

So far treatment is concerned there is no anti-viral drugs or vaccine available against this disease. Doctors are only giving life support system in worst cases and trying to treat the patient by using hit-and-miss method with HIV drugs and  Hydroxychloroquine. As a consequence, erratic results are coming forth as well as abuse and hoarding of Hydroxychloroquine has gone in rampant. This will have again adverse consequences on the health of millions after the COVID-19 episode is over.

To my little understanding of Ayurveda and of other Indian System of Medicine as researcher in its allied field, this is a unique opportunity for the ISM to establish its past glory which has been eclipsed by the modern medicine ignoring the evidence based ancient time tested wisdom. Ayurveda has never ever addressed the pathogen, it has only addressed the host, ie. Human body. Human body will naturally be exposed to various pathogens time to time and there will be new race developments in pathogens. If one has to develop medicine for each and every races of pathogen which will be an impossible task as well as unachievable task that has been once again proved in this case. It will also expose the human race for such unknown developments of races for which we will never be ready with our arsenal against such enemies. Therefore, ancient wisdom rightfully targeted building up host resistance or immunity as a shield against these known or even unknown pathogen enemies.

My request to the Honourable PM to ponder upon this wisdom and take this opportunity to test our ancient wisdom to re-establish it with reassured confidence. Doctors of ISM (Ayurveda, Siddha, Homeopathy and Yoga) may be given chance to test their ancient wisdom base treatments in the quarantined population in a blind fold method. We will not be losing anything since there is no treatment in allopathy so far and modern doctors are doing clinical trials with their available medicines against this pathogen. Why not ISM doctors should be allowed to try the several immune boosting medicines that they have for making the host resistance strengthened? Only one caution that professionals should be involved in the process, not the Babus.  Quack practitioners should be ruthlessly avoided. And all rumours should be avoided. All the press releases must be done only after concrete result in hand. Uncooked information in the form of press releases must be avoided.

Jai Hind!
